Catherine Addai’s story is a fashionable feel-good story everyone needs to hear. She holds a degree in the Health Informatics field and left her corporate job to pursue fashion as her passion, full-time. She set goals, worked hard, and accomplished said plans. The end? No. It’s just the beginning for the Toronto-based designer who started in the fashion business when her mom gifted her a sewing machine in 2012. She built a team, learned to sew and her first collection made its debut in 2013. Now A-list celebrities are sporting her pieces, and she’s determined to elevate how we look at prints and their possibilities.
Catherine has a zest for creating versatile pieces built for “mom life” and “boss life” as she’s a busy mom, entrepreneur and wife. Her designs are anchored by traditional prints and patterns from West Africa, predominantly Ghana, her ancestral country. Pair one of her skirts with a coordinating top, and you’ll wow at an upscale brunch. Then, pair the same skirt with a simple tee and jewelled sandals to head out shopping with your girlfriends. That’s the effortless style you can expect from her brand, Kaela Kay.
A look at her pieces:
There’s something for everyone in her collections because she pays keen attention to fit, textures and draping as much as prints. She’s also focused on creating unique silhouettes she describes as “modern, fun, creative and now.” Her Button Front Peplum Top with its billowing balloon sleeves is one such showstopping piece.
The flowy Gather Waist Maxi Dress is another must-have piece that’s trans-seasonal. Wear it in the summer with strappy sandals or a bootie come fall.
We’re so excited for her TSC debut! Explore all the offerings from Kaela Kay today.
