Introducing the Bite Me More Sisters

TSC is excited to introduce Bite Me More! Two sisters, Julie and Lisa who share a passion for great food, recipes, cooking advice and having fun!

About Julie & Lisa

Julie Albert and Lisa Gnat are the perfectly balanced (one’s sweet, the other salty) Canadian sisters behind the popular blog Bite Me More, digital agency Bite Me Digital, and bestselling cookbooks Bite Me, Bite Me Too, Lick Your Plate, and the recently released Bite Me Balance Cookbook.

Julie, with her passion for fonts and future perfect is the wordsmith (ready: wordy) sister, while Lisa, with her bionic palate, has the ability to create and cook up consistently delicious and easy crowd pleasers. Together, these sisters set everyone up for success in the kitchen and at the table, make eating, feeding, and entertaining a piece of cake.

Julie attended McGill University, Keio University in Tokyo, and Ryerson School of Journalism. She lives in Toronto with her husband and three kids. Lisa studied Pastry Arts at George Brown College and ran a successful baking business before she started writing cookbooks. She lives five blocks away from Julie in Toronto with her husband and three kids.

To get to know Julie and Lisa a little bit more, we asked them a few of our favourite questions!

What’s your biggest screw up in the kitchen?

Lisa: Using a mandoline when I was distracted.

Julie: I can be Blunder Woman in the kitchen, especially if I don’t have the right tools. I learned the hard way that a broken meat thermometer = a raw turkey dinner.

When you were a kid, did you eat your vegetables?

Lisa: Of course I did.

Julie: If by veggies, you mean cookies, then yes.

Favourite kitchen gadget or piece of equipment?

Lisa: I love my handheld immersion blender – it purees, emulsifies and whips like a pro.

Julie: My Smeg toaster. Toast is my jam.

What are your best cooking tips for someone at home?

Lisa: Menu planning, prepping in advance, and using the freshest ingredients you can, make life so much easier and tastier.

Julie: Follow Lisa’s 700+ recipes in our cookbooks.

What are your favourite foods to cook with?

Lisa: Fresh herbs can finish any dish perfectly, zested and juiced citrus livens up dressing, and fresh Parmesan, well, that goes without saying – it adds a nutty, rich bite to everything.

Julie: Ground beef, ground turkey, ground chicken…basically, anything you can roll into the form of meatballs.

What’s your favourite food memory?

Lisa: Our grandmother’s coconut cupcakes.

Julie: Single-handedly devouring a dozen Boston cream donuts at summer camp.

What do you like to cook at home?

Lisa: Soups in the winter, and grilling in the warmer weather.

Julie: Meatballs, of course.

What is the most challenging ingredient that you work with?

Lisa: I have fun with food, so I don’t really see ingredients as challenges, but more as tasty opportunities.

Julie: Artichokes – too much work for so little return.

Are there any foods you don’t like?

Lisa: Blue cheese

Julie: Anchovies.

What do you do for fun?

Lisa: Hang with my dog and grow my own veggies.

Julie: Call my sister 8 times/day.

What would be your “last supper” meal?

Lisa: Homemade raviolis.

Julie: A chili dog.
