“What you feed your body is going to boost your energy and your brain function,” says Dr. Olivia Rose. “There is a connection between your brain and your gut, so what you feed yourself is going to help with the production of certain hormones. You also want to avoid sugary and highly processed foods to prevent mood disorders like depression.”
“When you’re thinking about libido, you want to be as healthy as possible. Poor diet can lead to chronic health issues and that can lead to issues with sexual desire,” explains Dr. Rose. “Any food that is going to increase your dopamine level is going to help boost your libido,” she says, adding foods like blueberries, avocado, fish, chicken, asparagus and dairy are good choices. Foods that are high in Omega 3 fatty acids like cold water fish (salmon and sardines) or plant based versions like hempseeds, chia seeds, flax seeds are all fantastic to help boost blood flow. Certain spices like cloves, ginger and cinnamon are good for enhancing circulation.
Watermelon has been hailed as nature’s Viagra! It’s high in lycopene and citrullin, which are believed to promote cardiovascular health and aid in blood flow to the genitals.

“Are there any supplements that are good for sexual health?” ~ Andie
When it comes to supplements, Dr. Janine Bowring says there is an overarching thing that we need to think about when we think about sexual function and that is how well we deal with our day-to-day life, what are our stress levels and how much sleep we’re getting. This all ties back to our circadian rhythm.
“We really need to revamp the way we look at our overall health to have a healthy sex life and the energy to have that sexual desire,” Dr. Bowring says.
Here are Dr. Bowring’s recommended supplements for a healthy sex life!
