Another major annual event in ‘Gemuary’ is the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show. With roots stemming all the way back to the early 1950’s, this remarkable show attracts roughly 50,000 visitors to Arizona every year and has grown to become one of the largest gatherings for gemstone lovers in the world.
Andrew Stone’s Experience
Among those lovers is Himalayan Gems founder Andrew Stone, who has visited the show for the past three decades. Here’s how he describes the experience:
“When I first visited The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show in the late 1980s, I was in awe of the incredible variety of rough gemstones, prehistoric fossils, dinosaur bones, minerals and unique jewellery. Fast-forward 30 years later and the show never ceases to yield new discoveries.
“Every year I spend days wandering the aisles of the exhibition halls, examining the tents and prowling the various parking lots where vendors have set up–you just never know what you’re going to find! Besides, it also doesn’t hurt to spend a week away from the cold every February!”
Stone, like many of TSC’s jewellery trailblazers, still travels the world to seek out fresh gems to incorporate into his collections. After all, his Himalayan Gems line is a direct result of a trip to India and the Himalayas back in 1975.
